Always get permission from the proper person before entering a site. Before any investigation PIPR has the owner sign papers allowing us to enter. NEVER trespass on private property. Ask the owners of the property to give you a tour of the grounds before you begin.

Teamwork is very important when conducting an investigation. Stay either in groups or teams of at least two people. If you follow this rule and one person should fall and hurt themselves or have another problem there will always be someone else there to help. In the fort, When PIPR members split into teams each member also carries a two-way radio for extra safety.

PIPR investigators wear black or dark clothing when doing their research. This is because flashlights or the flashes from cameras may reflect off light colored clothes and look like a burst of light on a photograph. It's also important to wear sneakers especially when walking around in really dark places such as cemeteries.

Some investigators rely on their psychic powers rather than electronic equipment to confirm the presence of ghosts. PIPR combines the information from these psychics with the data from the electronic equipment to decide whether or not a building is haunted.

This investigator is carrying several pieces of equipment. Which do you think in the most important one? It's not the radio or the electromagnetic field detector. It's not even the camera. It's the paper and pen! Always be sure to write down everything you see, hear or feel. Make sure you also keep track of the times of the events to compare notes with other investigators when you are finished.

PIPR uses infrared video cameras to videotape any paranormal events that occur. It's a good idea to take temperature or EMF readings at the same time as the video. Here you can see what our video camera looks like. We added an extra infrared light source to the camera so that anomalies that we can not see with normal light can appear on the video tape.

PIPR members use infrared thermal scanners to measure the temperature during the investigation. They are looking for a spots that are either hotter or colder than the rest of the fort for no apparent reason. If the temperature drops more than 10 degrees in so seconds there may be a spirit present. All of the temperature measurements they take are written down in their notes.

This photo was taken by Investigator Isanski in the hallway where all investigators felt that spirits were present. You can see an orb coming down the hallway.
